To go cleaner and greener, get the bus
Greener Journeys is the first-ever national consumer marketing campaign to persuade people to get out of cars and on to buses. Brought to you by a coalition of the major bus companies in the UK, we want to make it easier and more attractive for you to get the bus. Over the next three years, we want to take one billion car journeys off the road. That would mean a huge reduction in carbon emissions, pollution and congestion, making life better for everyone all round.
Reducing car use is one of the most efficient and cost-effective ways of cutting transport carbon emissions.
It’s healthy Have a look at our clip on how healthy taking the bus can be.
Why get the bus
For some journeys, you can’t beat the bus. Buses cruise straight into the centre of town without you having to endure all the stress of driving, finding somewhere to park and then pouring money into the meter. Instead you can relax, chat or knit – and then concentrate on having a good time when you get there, without worrying about driving back. Plus, catching the bus is a great way to travel to work where you can run through a presentation, catch up on emails or the next chapter of that unputdownable thriller. Sometimes getting the bus makes more sense than getting behind the wheel – so why not give it a go?
Plus it’s healthy
To maintain a healthy lifestyle it is recommended that we all take 30 minutes of exercise, five days a week. The great news is that we’ve just calculated that you can get half of this just by walking to and from the bus stop. Gym memberships can be expensive and visiting can feel like a real chore so why not get part of your exercise by making the simple walk to and from the bus each day?As part of a study we recently conducted we found that people walk over 2.5 times further when travelling by bus compared to driving. And with over 85% of houses in the UK being within a 6 minute walk of a bus stop, it’s really easy to incorporate into your lifestyle. In fact, if you took one return bus journey everyday, you’d walk the equivalent of 11 marathons in a year AND burn over 22,000 calories!
