Travelling safely on buses is abellio theme

Abellio Surrey said today it is proud to be supporting the Surrey Junior Citizenship Scheme with Spelthorne Borough Council.

Janet Cameron, Abellio Surrey’s Buses in the Community representative, has been invited to make presentations at the event which is being held at Walton Fire Station from September 14-29.

She will be accompanied at the Junior Citizenship Scheme by Shane Warnes, relief Duty Manager at Byfleet.

Twenty nine schools are expected to attend and during the presentations Janet will speak on a range of topics surrounding travelling safely on buses.

She said: “I thoroughly enjoy taking part in community events as well as attending schools as it gives me a real sense of wellbeing. I am looking forward to the future of Abellio Buses in the community and feel proud to represent Abellio at these events.

“I believe the relationships formed between schools and community members are of great value to the future.”

Recent Abellio activity for Surrey schools has included Abellio Beddington depot’s Operations Manager Norman Flemming and Staff Manager Frank Ayeni attending Launcelot Primary School’s annual fete and spoke to children – and adults – about safety on buses. They also handed out goody bags to people who got on the bus.

Abellio also undertook trips for Harris Academy in Peckham. They took them to the Natural History Museum, on a sightseeing tour of London, which included Jubilee Gardens and to see The Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre. For the latter, which was a graduation trip, students decorated the bus and on its return to the school Trevor was presented with a card signed by teachers and pupils.

Janet has also visited a number of other schools including providing a presentation to 65 year 6 pupils at Stanwell Fields Primary School on bus safety and use and also handed out goody bags. She also presented special bus tickets enabling each child and one adult to have a ‘dummy run’ by bus to their new school.
