Lorna Murphy is the first transport industry expert to be featured in a new ‘Let’s Talk Transport’ video feature for Intelligent Transport. As an expert on the bus industry and driving diversity and inclusion within it, Lorna was the ideal guest to talk about progress within the industry and hopes for the future.
Abellio is incredibly proud that over one-third of our operational team are women and that our teams comprise over 45 different nationalities. We have led a number of initiatives to attract a diverse workforce and ensure that team members can progress and be their whole selves within the workplace. These include mentoring schemes, inclusive uniform policies, and the use of accessible and inclusive language. We are also operating initiatives to ensure that women are attracted to the industry - such as our Women With Drive training which had a 100% pass rate on the initial trial in May 2023
As an expert in diversity and inclusion, Lorna has also shared her experience with the Transport UK Group and wider industry groups, she is a founder member of the Women in Bus and Coach initiative and delivered a keynote speech at the inaugural London gathering.

Diversity makes us better, working in bus offers great career opportunities, and it is vital that we break down the barriers to welcome and develop people so that we truly reflect the communities that we serve.’
